Van restmateriaal naar robot

Last month, we welcomed a visit from Merel and Vera of MAKERS ON THE MOVE. Not for a tour, but with a clear mission: collecting leftover rubber and foam materials for a special educational project.
Exploring Opportunities in Material Streams
Our containers and material streams were opened up. Foam blocks no longer suitable for sale, coloured foam leftovers, and pieces of rubber were carefully examined, touched, and selected.
Where residual materials are often seen as waste, Merel and Vera saw endless creative opportunities.
A Second Life During the Week of Maker Education
During the Week of Maker Education, the materials were given a new purpose. In no fewer than 15 classrooms, mainly in special education, children got to work building their own “Recyclobots.”
EKI’s foam formed the foundation for a wide variety of creations: from colourful robots to imaginative designs full of creativity and engineering.
In this way, materials that might otherwise have gone unused were given a valuable and inspiring second life.
Working Together Sustainably and Creatively
At EKI, we are proud to contribute to initiatives like this. Not only because giving materials a second life is sustainable, but also because it encourages children to think creatively and discover what is possible with existing materials.
And honestly? The idea that our foam eventually “walks” around a classroom as a robot is, to us, a truly wonderful example of how residual material can be transformed into something meaningful.
