Properties of neoprene with 1 side nylon

Neoprene with 1 side nylon consists of a neoprene foam core with a nylon layer on one side. The nylon layer makes the material sturdier, easier to sew and stitch, and more durable. The raw material combines the good properties of different rubbers such as EPDM and NBR rubber. As a result, it has good UV and ozone resistance and reasonable oil resistance, and is reasonably flame-retardant (not in accordance with UL94). It is also very resistant to fresh water and seawater. Neoprene is designed to stretch often and has good mechanical properties. It feels smooth and requires little maintenance. The material is produced in blocks which we then peel into sheets in a variety of thicknesses as desired. It is then covered with nylon on one side. Our range includes neoprene that has been peeled from both the outside and inside of the blocks. The difference between these is whether the skin on the outside of the block is used. This skin provides a surface that feels smooth to the touch in contrast to the underlying cellular structure, reducing the chance of moss formation. An example is EKI 4600. EKI 4900 also has a unique structure known as shark skin. The sheets can also be cut into a range of shapes, such as blocks, rings and more. At EKI, we can supply this material in the following colors: black, red, orange, light grey, royal blue and navy blue. The side without nylon on it is also optionally available with a self-adhesive layer.

Uses of neoprene with 1 side nylon

If you want to use neoprene for diving suits, we recommend that you choose neoprene with two sides nylon. The type with nylon on one side is mainly used in comfort applications and other consumer applications including upholstering chair arms and wheelchairs, as the material is both comfortable and has anti-slip properties. For this reason, it is also used in orthopaedic applications. It is frequently used to make mouse mats.
