SBR Rubber

SBR rubber is the most common type of rubber. This material has good mechanical properties and is very resistant to wear and tear. It is widely used for insulation, sealing purposes, and for shock and vibration absorption, as well as for car tyres, springs and bearings.

    Properties of SBR rubber

SBR (Styrol Butadiene Rubber) is the raw material most commonly used to make rubber. It consists of butadiene rubber augmented with 10 to 35% styrene. This combination increases the resistance of the material to heat and ageing. It is resistant to temperatures ranging from -20°C to 90°C, making it ideal for insulation, damping and shock absorption. SBR is highly resistant to friction wear, making it a durable option for indoor usage. It also has very good mechanical properties and returns to its original shape after compression. This flexibility and resilience mean that the material will not tear easily, however it is less elastic than a substance such as natural rubber. The hardness of SBR varies from 40 to 95 Shore A. While it also has good resistance to water, acids, bases and salts, we do not recommend its use in applications involving contact with mineral and other oils, fuels, hydrocarbons and solvents. If you are looking for a rubber with better resistance to oils, we recommend NBR rubber instead.

    SBR rubber applications

This type of rubber is widely used and has many different applications, mainly indoors. Examples include rubber mats, anti-slip mats, bearing pad rubber in constructions, such as beneath heavy beams, and even in shoe soles. Compared to other technical rubber types, this material is less resistant to weather and heat, which means that it is primarily used indoors. It is commonly seen in the construction, shipping and industrial sectors, as well as the medical sector. For example, SBR sheets are used to prevent leaks or the flow of air, and also as sound insulation on bearings or in packaging. Because the material is easy to process, it can be cut into all kinds of shapes such as strips, rings, sheets and gaskets, in various thicknesses. These can be used for insulation, as seals, and to absorb impacts or vibrations. Other familiar applications include vehicle tyres, subflooring, springs and bearings. Due to its wide range of properties, it also has numerous applications in the food industry and the aerospace, agriculture and mechanical engineering sectors.
