    Properties of fireproof tape

Fireproof tape is a special type of glazing tape used to create fireproof seals around window and door frames. There are two types: ceramic tape (also known as ceramic fibre tape) and fireproof expanding tape (also known as intumescent tape). Ceramic tape is made of asbestos-free silicate fibres and can withstand high temperatures up to 900°C and briefly even up to 1200°C. The glazing tape comes with an acrylic self-adhesive side covered with PE film. EKI supplies this ceramic tape in the colour white, in various sizes and quantities. The tape resists ageing well and is suitable for sealing parallel joints with minimal joint gradients. If ceramic tape is wet with water or oil, it can be reused after drying. To achieve the best thermal insulation, the tape should be compressed 20% after application. The other type, fire-resistant expanding tape, has the special property of being able to expand to up to 10 times its original volume when in contact with extremely high temperatures. This enables it to adhere to the glazing and frame, preventing the passage of flames, smoke or toxic gases during a fire. This expanding tape can be used for irregular joints with a larger joint gradient because the material is very soft. Also, it is water-resistant, resists ageing, and has good mechanical properties. We supply this fireproof tape in the colour grey, in various sizes and quantities.

    Uses of fireproof glazing tape

Fire-resistant glazing tape is mainly used to seal the frames of windows and doors in public areas such as hospitals, apartments, hotels and laboratories. Both types of fireproof tape described above are mostly applied to the inside of the window frame or in the door rebate. This is then used to seal fire doors and fireproof windows. Joints, partition walls and ceilings can also be sealed with a fireproof sealing strip. These fire doors can be made from wood, steel or aluminium. Fireproof glazing tape is mainly used during the glazing process, as well as for other fire-retardant systems. For example, it can be used as a bearing material for insulation in furnace construction, and in the air conditioning and heating industry due to its fireproof properties and resistance to high temperatures.
