Aluminium Foil

Aluminum foil is widely used in the construction industry for insulation because of the reflective properties inherent in its silver colour. This reflective foil also acts as a moisture and vapour barrier and is windproof. It can also be attached to our other materials with the application of a self-adhesive side.

    Properties of aluminium foil

When you think of aluminium foil, you probably immediately think of the foil you use in the kitchen to cover your food or keep it warm. Although this type of foil has similar properties to the aluminium construction foil that we sell at EKI, it is not the same material. The materials share many properties; the aluminium kitchen foil is used to keep food warm because it is an insulating material. Similarly, aluminium construction foil is used for insulation applications due to the reflective effect of the silver material. It reflects the heat radiation so that it does not get absorbed into the material or substrate. This means that it keeps the heat in during winter and keeps it out during summer. Have you ever noticed that condensation gathers on the foil when it has been used to cover hot food? This is because aluminium foil is moisture-resistant and acts as a vapour barrier. It is also waterproof (water-repellent), draught-excluding and windproof. The reflective foil is very resistant to UV and ozone and is resistant to weather influences, so it can be used both indoors and outdoors. It is also resistant to ageing and provides sound insulation. We can supply aluminium construction liner in desired sizes and quantities, including with one self-adhesive side to facilitate mounting on a floor or wall.

    Uses of aluminium foil

Among other things, aluminium foil is used as a vapour barrier floor liner in floor heating systems. It is also frequently applied to the warm side of sloping roofs and facade structures such as in cavity walls and prewalls. The self-adhesive side also allows the material to be affixed to another product, such as EKI 107. When used in this way, it enhances the sound-insulating properties of the polyurethane foam. In addition, it is used to insulate profiled sheeting and installation ducts. Due to its insulating and vapour barrier properties, aluminium foil is also widely used in saunas, swimming pools, bathrooms, kitchens, cold rooms, laundries and sports facilities.
