Neoprene Foam

Neoprene foam has a closed cell structure, which means that it is waterproof and does not absorb liquids. It is resistant to contact with seawater, is flame-retardant, and reasonably oil-resistant. This material is widely used in the shipping industry and offshore, as well as for making seals in industry.

    Properties of neoprene foam

Neoprene foam, also known as CR foam (chloroprene) is a multifunctional material. Because it has a closed cell structure, it does not absorb water and is therefore watertight. This makes the material ideal for applications in which it comes into contact with seawater, as this does not affect it. The foam rubber is soft and flexible and has very good mechanical properties, so it is easily compressed and returns readily to its original shape after compression. Neoprene is also known for its good flame-retardant properties. It is more oil resistant than EPDM foam, but NBR foam is the best choice when it comes to oil resistance. Neoprene foam can be used in applications involving temporary contact with oil, however. It can also be exposed to heat, ozone and weather influences. If it’s likely to be exposed to considerable UV radiation though, we recommend choosing EPDM instead of neoprene. The material is resistant to ageing and will therefore have a long life span. It is also suitable for use as heat and sound insulation and can be used for shock absorption purposes as well. Because the material is easy to convert, we can cut the foam rubber sheets and rolls into all kinds of shapes, such as foam rubber tape, reels, blocks, frames, disks and rings. We can supply all of these in single- and double-sided self-adhesive forms.

    Neoprene foam applications

This foam rubber’s waterproof and seawater-resistant properties mean that it is frequently used in shipping and offshore applications. It is also widely used as a seal in industrial applications, for example in the form of neoprene strips in the bodywork, aviation and automotive industries. Thanks to its hard-wearing and insulating properties, it is also widely used as insulation for aluminium or steel windows and partitions. This means that neoprene foam is frequently visible in steel constructions or public spaces. Thanks to its shock-absorbing properties, it can also be used to make impact rubber.
