Construction Felt

Construction felt has good cushioning and insulating properties. It is mainly used to level out uneven surfaces in construction and to provide insulation. We also supply painter's fleece made from construction felt – this is frequently used by painters to protect floors from dirt and paint.

    Properties of construction felt

Construction felt can be made from both wool felt and needle felt (synthetic felt). The synthetic type is mostly chosen as needle felt is weather-resistant, does not rot in a humid environment and is not eaten by animals or vermin. Construction felt has excellent cushioning and absorption properties, good heat resistance and good sound insulation properties. If this material is used, there is less chance of point loads due unevenness on the bearing surface between floor and interior wall. This reduces the likelihood of cracking in a sand-lime brick interior wall, for example. Construction felt will not discolour due to leaking water, resists ageing well and is easy to work with. In addition, it has a high compressive strength, is permanently elastic and has a low coefficient of friction. The material is also available with a self-adhesive layer and is then known as adhesive felt or self-adhesive felt.

    Uses of construction felt

Construction felt is mainly used to level out uneven surfaces in construction and as an industrial felt for glass bearings. The purpose is to prevent damage when movements occur in building constructions due to temperature. It is also used to reduce the transmission of impact sound. The material can therefore improve the sound insulation. Construction felt can also absorb vibrations and create better thermal bridge insulation between wall and floor. It is usually used in light and simple applications, such as light structures in wood frame construction, in wood partition walls, wood floors or light floors in residential construction. In addition, it is used to insulate air ducts, beneath masonry, and in floating floors or hollow-core floors. Felt truly has endless uses; it can be used in virtually any architectural construction imaginable to level out unevenness, absorb sound and vibrations and reduce loads.
